Commodore -Pete Tyson
A native of Miami, Florida, Peter Tyson grew up around the water and particularly, fishing. During high school years he worked on area fishing boats, earned his USCG Captain’s license and skippered a 50’ charter boat out of Miami Beach at age 18. While receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (BSc) at the University of Miami and pursuing a Masters at FAU (vertebrate physiology), he continued to operate charter boats in Florida and private fishing boats and yachts in Florida, the Bahamas, and Caribbean. He still operates boats for friends and clients and enjoys fishing the flats and offshore from his own boats. He still maintains his USCG license.
Well versed in the English language, he wrote regular columns for Go Boating magazine and Florida Fishing News and has had articles and photographs published in Salt Water Sportsman, Florida Sportsman, Pleasure Boating, Southern Boating, and in-flight magazines at Delta Airlines and BWIA. He was co-founder and Editor of Tournament Digest Magazine. Twice President of the world-renowned Miami Beach Rod & Reel Club, he is well known in local and international fishing communities having frequently taken teams to fish in South Africa, Central and South America, and throughout the Caribbean. He has served on numerous committees at the Pelican Yacht Club, as well as several terms on the Board of Directors, Rear and Vice Commodore, and Commodore in 2012. He was Member of the Year at the Pelican in 2014 and chairs the Annual Invitational Billfish Tournament at the Club. He has been a member of the FCA for ten years and has been a Board Member of the FCAF from its inception, and is currently Chairman of FCAF. He is also a Four Star Commodore in FCA – a great honor.
A constant traveler with many visits to the South Pacific, and particularly to New Zealand and Australia, he has made two around-the-world trips in the southern hemisphere, visited 68 countries and all 50 states. He maintains a library of over 500 books. His hobbies include fishing, photography, reading, model trains, and stamps.
He has been in the specialized business of yacht insurance for 44 years and aviation insurance for 35 years. He is a multi-engine instrument rated private pilot.
Peter lives in Vero Beach with his wife Jeanne.
Vice Commodore - Anita Clark
My husband and I moved from Miami to DeLand on Lake Beresford in 1998. The Lake Beresford Yacht Club was directly across the lake from us and quite enticing which caused us to quickly join.
My husband passed away in 2006 and the Yacht Club was completely lost to a fire in 2007. It was a time of many adjustments for me. Good friends and great dining were still at the Club to help me through that period.
After the fire, it was suggested to me that I might join the Halifax River Yacht Club, which I did, while keeping my Lake Beresford membership. Halifax gave me quite an education concerning the formal happenings of a Yacht Club. I became an active member of the Commodears, the ladies’ group, and was chosen to be their Board representative, attending the Club's Board meetings, and returning to the ladies with a full report of the happenings. I served in that position for three years experiencing the leadership of three Commodores and their Boards which gave me a thorough knowledge of all the inner workings of a Yacht Club.
Lake Beresford had a long period of planning after the fire with the Groundbreaking not until May of 2013 and the Grand Opening not held until January of 2014, at which the Florida Commodores Association conducted a Sundowners Ceremony. That was another formal event of which I became aware.
All this led to a very active Yacht Club life for me. In May of 2013 I attended the International Commodores Association Academy of Officers & Professionals, in February of 2014 I was requested by Lake Beresford to serve as their Director to the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs and in November of 2015 I attended an FCA Leadership Seminar. The training and experience I received in all these opportunities greatly assisted me in 2017 as I became Vice Commodore of Lake Beresford and when I served as Commodore for 2018-19.
I am presently in my seventh year of service as Director for Lake Beresford Yacht Club to the Florida Council of Yacht Club. For the last four years I have served on the Council's Executive Board serving as both Parliamentarian and Membership Chair.
Rear Commodore -Tim Couty
Past Commodore Tim Couty has lived in Bay Point since 2015. He is a native of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Tim’s experience is quite diverse. He was the President and CEO of CSDP, Incorpo rated, a publicly traded company on the Nasdaq exchange from 1989 to 1994. CSDP’s focus is energy management busi ness. Tim also served as Vice President for Pure Serve International, Inc. from 1995 to 2001. Pure Serve is a restaurant equipment re He was President of Southern Roofing 2004 till 2013. Starting in 2016, he was elected President of the Board of Directors for Islandwood Con dominiums on Okaloosa Island and held that position until 2019. Tim served on the 2021 Board of Bay Point West following Hurricane Michael to help the community recover and get back on track. He was also a committee member on the Bay Point Architectural Review Board in 2021.
In 2022, Tim was nominated and elected by the membership of Bay Point Yacht Club as their Commodore. He and “Commodoress” Amy initiated a calendar of events that brought into the club many new members and new life following the difficulties of sur viving Hurricane Michael. Tim was also re sponsible for maintaining the traditions and courtesies of yachting during his tenure. Since 2014,
Tim has been President of Tim and Amy Properties investments, LLC. He and Amy own and manage several rental homes and beach front condos. Tim’s Life Partner is Amy Cline and they re side in Bay Point where they share their home together. He has two daughters. His oldest, Ansley, is a senior at the University of Georgia Pharma cy School and will graduate with a 4.0 GPA in May 4, 2023. She is currently the Pediat ric Pharmacist at Bay Medical in Panama City Beach. Bailey, his younger daughter, has her Master’s Degree, and is a Nurse Practitioner at Medical Center in Columbus Ga. She is the Charge Nurse over the pediat ric trauma center.
Tim has a passion for cars. He was a Pro Driver for BMW 2001 until 2004. Today, Tim collects cars. He has a Rolls Royce and a Ferrari.
Fleet Captain -Jack Kennedy
My wife, Mary, and I have been residents of Panama City, Florida since 1996 and reside at 353 Wahoo Road in Bay Point.
I attended Hiwassee College in Tennessee. I made three tours of duty in Viet Nam during my six years in the Navy. I have forty-nine years of experience in construction trade sales. I am retired from Benjamin Moore Paint Company as a Business Development Representative after 29 years. I am also a Construction Specification Institute (CSI) member in my trade.
I have been on the Bridge and Board of three different yacht clubs in Tennessee. I was the Commodore of Chattanooga Boating Club 1985, Commodore of Lakeshore Yacht Club in 1988, and Vice Commodore of Chattanooga Yacht Club in 1996. Since I have moved to Florida in 1996, I was Commodore of Bay Point Yacht Club in 2000. I was also the District 8 International Order of the Blue Gavel Florida President in 2007 and a District Director of District 8 in 2008. I am a founding member of the Florida Commodores Association and was Rear Commodore of the International Commodores Association in 2010-2011. I am presently on the board of the FCA Foundation whose mission is to promote sailing and boating.
Secretary —Susan McKinnon
As a native of Pensacola, I began sailing at the age of 12 when a friend invited me for a day on the bay. Instantly hooked on the sport, this morphed into crewing in many regattas along the Gulf Coast. At age 15, I joined Pensacola Yacht Club as a junior member, and later secured a job as lifeguard at the PYC pool. Close to the yachting activities, many afternoons were spent on Lasers, Flying Scots, various monohulls, and catamarans. Many weekends were spent participating in Gulf Yachting Association (GYA) regattas.
With the emergence of windsurfing in the ‘80’s, I became a certified Windsurfing instructor teaching this new, popular sport on Santa Rosa Sound and racing on the weekends.
Twenty years and many yacht races later, interested in Yacht Club leadership, I originated the PYC Landscape Committee. Five years post Hurricane Ivan (2004), much enhancement was needed to improve the Club grounds. Under my leadership, many shrubs and live oaks were added to the south side of the property. In recent years, additional irrigation was added to the north acreage due to the fundraising efforts of the Pensacola Chapter, FCA. This facilitated additional plantings of twenty-two live oaks.
In 2010, I served as the PYC Fleet Captain during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Considered the largest marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry; aside from the damage that occurred in the Gulf and environs, it created difficult situations regarding race management. Fortunately, only one event, the annual Gulfport to Pensacola race was cancelled due to a large patch of oil drifting to our shores.
Following the fleet captain position, I served as Rear Commodore in charge of membership, and afterwards, Vice Commodore overseeing facilities. In 2013, I was elected as the first female Commodore in the Club’s 105-year history. Since that time, I have held various leadership positions within the Pensacola Chapter of the Florida Commodore’s Association and continue to chair projects to enhance our beautiful 22-acre campus.
As a veteran of the Escambia County School District, I retired after 31 years as an elementary teacher and as a reading coach training teachers on effective classroom practices. In my spare time, I enjoy sailing with my husband, Ian, on our Catalina 425, and anticipate competing in our recently acquired Catalina 22.
Treasurer—Margaret Yaeger
Margaret and her first husband, P/C Andres E. Moynelo came to the Daytona Beach area in 1985 aboard their motor yacht “Lady Margaret” from the Chesapeake Bay. After settling in Daytona Beach, they joined Halifax River Yacht Club in 1989.
In 2000, Margaret became an Active Member upon the death of her husband. She served on the Finance Committee from 2001 through 2014, 2016-2017 and 2020-present. From 2003-2005 she served as a Director; Secretary (2012); Rear Commodore (2013); Vice Commodore (2014); Commodore (2015) Immediate Past Commodore (2016); Chairman of the Planning Committee (2014) Planning Committee Member (2016); Bylaws Committee Chairman (2016-2017); and Director 2020 – 2022.
Margaret was recognized as a Four-Star Commodore by the Florida Commodores Association in 2016.
In 2001, Margaret met her second husband, Ted Yaeger III, at the Club. They were married at the Club in 2002.
Margaret attended the FCA Leadership Seminar in 2014 and again in 2021.
Margaret has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from American University in Washington, DC. She has been employed with a public accounting firm for thirty-four years.
Other community activities include, Member Pilot Club of Port Orange (1987-2006) served as President (2005-2006); Member Pilot Club of Daytona Beach (2007- present) serving as President in July 2020 – June 2022. Peabody Auditorium Foundation (2014-2017) served as Treasurer (2015-2017); Member of the Board of Directors of the Daytona Beach Symphony Society and President 2021 - present.
Immediate Past Commodore -Bob Sutton
I hail from the Northeast, learning to sail a sunfish the summer in my tenth year off the coast of Provincetown. I continued my love of sailing into adulthood, with racing on the St. John’s River while stationed in Jacksonville Florida and have continued to love the water, sailing, and owned several boats during the last 51 years
.
I’m currently a self-employed flight instructor, logging over 10,000 flight hours. I retired from the US Navy after 22 years of active duty, flying missions in Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Somalia, and Bosnia where I earned an air medal. I’ve held many positions requiring business savvy, including the President of a multimillion-dollar waterfront homeowners association in Maine for over 5 years. Also, management and budgeting of a Pro Shop on a busy golf course for 2 years.
I returned to Florida in 2001, settling in Pensacola. I have been a dues paying member of Pensacola Yacht Club (PYC) for 16 years and Navy Yacht Club Pensacola (NYCP) for 15 years. I have been active in volunteerism at PYC and since 2003, with PYC Junior sailing from 2003-2005, race committee for both clubs 2003-2006 and 2010 to present. I served on PYC ‘s Board of Directors over bylaws in 2005, Assistant Race Committee Chair 2011, and Race Committee Chair the following year. Involved in the annual W.A.V.E., I have had the responsibility for leading the on-water activities since its inception in 2012.
I have held several Flag Officer positions over the years. As PYC Fleet Captain 2013, I was able to celebrate a successful year with the lowest budget and spending in 13 years. As Rear Commodore at PYC, I introduced the summer membership to PYC, which is now known as a social membership. Under my direction, the membership committee introduced the development of several groups focused on activities such as fishing, kayaking, biking, in addition to the traditional sailing and raft-up activities. This productive year was followed by NYCP Fleet Captain, Vice Commodore, and Commodore consecutively. Of significant note, membership was increased two-fold under my leadership as Vice Commodore in 2016 through my term as Commodore in 2017. I simultaneously continued involvement in the FCA, W.A.V.E., held BOD positions at PYC, as well as serving on selected committees at PYC. I continue to actively participate in volunteering and currently holds the position of the Vice President of the PYC Chapter of the FCA.
